The Rio Negro Palace is located in the center of Manaus and is one of the city's main tourist attractions. It was built in 1903 by Italian architect Antonio Jannuzzi as a private residence for a rubber merchant, the German Waldemar Scholz. In 1917, it was acquired by the government and became the headquarters of the State Executive Power and the governor's residence.
Due to its historical relevance and architectural beauty, it was listed as a Historical and Artistic Heritage of the State of Amazonas and transformed into a Cultural Center, with spaces open for music recitals, exhibitions, book launches, dance, and theater, among other activities.
The space preserves three original pieces dating back to 1903, including a bronze chandelier and two statues located at the foot of the staircase, representing poetry and music. These are the only furniture pieces that remain from Baron Scholz's time. There is also a set of furniture donated by the Chinese government.
The Rio Negro Palace Cultural Center is open to the public, with free admission, and is open from Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
