Festribal celebrates folklore and indigenous traditions in the Amazon

Considered the largest cultural event of the indigenous peoples of the forest, Festribal (Cultural Festival of the Indigenous Peoples of the Upper Rio Negro) welcomes thousands of spectators to learn about indigenous legends and traditions. The event was created in 1998 and takes place in the city of São Gabriel da Cachoeira during the month of September, and celebrates the indigenous ethnic diversity of the peoples of the region, known as “Cabeça do Cão”.

During the days of the festival, representatives of the cultural associations Tribo Baré, Tukano and Filhos do Rio Negro wear colors that portray the history and culture of the indigenous peoples of the Northwest of Amazonas. The region is home to 23 indigenous peoples who showcase their creativity, dance and beauty during the festival. In addition to cultural performances, the festival features musical performances, a craft fair and gastronomy.
