TAPURUQUARA WARRIORS HILLS RIDGES ABORD UNTAMED AMAZON

DESTINATION

The Tapuruquara Warriors Mountain Ridges, or Iwitera Maramuywera Tapuruquara Suiwara, on traditional Nheengatu, local Indian language, are located on Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, formerly known as Tapuruquara. This area is part of the Indian Territory of Medium Negro River I and II.

This area is inhabited by eight different Indian Ethnic groups, whom lives there for thousands of years. They preserve their traditions on rituals, dances, sustainability, fiber and ceramic handcrafts and, of course, on stories and myths that explain the meaning of everything, all this allied to the natural diversity of Negro River.

The Brazilian National Policy for Environmental and Territorial Management on indigenous reservations, was approved on 2012, focusing on guarantee and promote Indian initiatives regarding protection, recovery, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and lands.

In 2015, FUNAI (Brazilian Government Foundation for Indian Support), published a normative ruling implementing Tourist Activities on Indian Reservations. Both measures facilitated the creation of a Visitation Plan by the Indian Villages, with clear objective to develop the Indian Village Base Tourism.

THE CHALLENGE

The Indian Villages in this area, find complex barriers to manage their lands and environment. Most of these barriers are generation conflicts, population densification on territorial occupation and, many times, migration to nearby urban areas. They also face pressure and threats from drug trafficking and mining companies, due the lack of Government supervision.

The main objective on this expedition is to assist the Villages to structure itineraries that connect Brazilian and International tourists to their way of life, and to draw attention to the high need to support them to preserve their main asset: The Amazon.

THE PARTNERS

The test itineraries from the Expedition Tapuruquara Warriors Mountain Ridges, were developed in partnership with Garupa*, the Riverside and Indian Villages Association (ACIR), the Rio Negro Indian Organizations Federtion (FOIRN), Socio-environmental Institute (ISA), with support from National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) and Chico Mendes Institute for Conservation of Biodiversity (ICMBIO). One of the objectives of Garupa* - and of this expedition - is to demonstrate that this kind of trip is not to make good actions, or to comply with a set of rules of how to act on vacations. We travel this way because it is more fun, because it delivers more fulfilling experiences as it opens a possibility to connect with the different.

The water is purified trough chlorine metering, three membrane filter and UV Filter. Our ship also counts with a modern effluent treatment, where all residues are totally clear before getting back to the river. It is the major environmental concern on vessels in Amazon.

The main deck has 8 suites – each with 18 square meters – been 6 for couples, and 2 twin suites.

All suites have private bathroom, air conditioner, plenty of room for clothes and equipment’s and of course, our amazing panoramic view windows. Our rooms are equipped with queen size bed or single bed, depending on the configuration.

The upper deck is perfect to our guest relax and enjoy our open bar when arriving from a day filled with adventure.

The living area is connected to our dinner room, where drinks and appetizers are served. There is also and external area with two big Jacuzzi’s that hold up to 10 guests each, besides an open balcony.
